Golden Lemon Bread


½ cup shortening

1 cup sugar

2 eggs

1-1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 teaspoon baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

¾ milk


½ confectioners’ sugar

2 teaspoons grated lemon peel

2 to 3 tablespoons lemon juice
(You will need 3 lemons to complete glaze)


Preheat oven 350 degrees. Grease 8-in. x 4-in. x 2-in loaf pan.

In a large bowl, cream shortening and sugar. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each egg. Combine flour, baking powder and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with milk. Pour the batter into greased loaf pan. Bake 55-60 minutes.

Combine the glaze ingredients and 
immediately pour over warm bread.

Tip: When starting this recipe I used the technique
Mise en place “everything in place.” I prep all my ingredients before starting. This helped get through the recipe quick and easy.
